On Writing

On Writing

I’ve been writing more than reading lately and it feels quite refreshing. I mean, I love books – they are a little piece of heaven on earth, really – but, nothing feels like words flowing through your head and writing them down on paper or typing them up on a blank canvass. Nothing feels like feeling an emotion and being able to describe it using words effortlessly. Nothing is more frustrating than not being able to get a certain word out of your mouth at the perfect moment, when it feels like you’ve ruined it.

Writing has always been my art, and it took a while for me to find it. How did I find my art? I was inspired. I was inspired by all the amazing writers all around me. Some have url’s I’ve known by heart, and some just use words and turn them into sentences and paragraphs and make me feel. That’s the best part, I guess – making other people feel what you do. Expressing yourself through words like heartbeats.

I am thankful, thankful for all the wonderful opportunities given to me to write. I am thankful, for every chance I get to share my art to the world. I am thankful, to all the people who has inspired me through their words.

I am thankful.

How to Write About the One You Love

How to Write About the One You Love

How do you write about the person you love?

I use metaphors, because simple adjectives are not enough to describe how you make me feel.

No, I don’t use metaphors or adjectives; because no words can describe the way I feel when I think about you, when I hear your name, or when we’re together.

I think about the sun and its warmth, and how it brightens my day. I think about the winter and the cold, like the way you make me feel when you’re gone. I think about what could be going on in your thoughts, whether I’m part of it or not.

At the end of the day, I do write about you, in the simplest way I could possibly can, using the most extraordinary words of the English language. I write about you, not because you’ve filled up most of my thoughts, but because I want to remember everything about you: every moment, every smile, every detail.

I write about you in the most serene way: how peaceful you look when you sleep, or how your eyes never seem to leave a page when you read. I write about you and our adventures, because they are greater than any love story ever told.

I write about you and us, even if ‘we’ don’t exist.

I write about you and this one-way love story, because you’ll never really know how I feel.

I write about me, writing about you and how you inspire me to play the odds.

And if it were up to me, you were probably the most beautiful piece I’ve ever written.

Polaroids and things

Polaroids and things

Holla, y’all! Okay, I know I said I’m going to stop blogging but heck, we all know it’s hard to stay away from good ‘ol Tumblr. Tumblr peeps are just amazing. So here’s a little update from the past few months.

  • UP’s academic calendar shift. Finally, after a good dose of arguments and discussions here and there, the Board of Regents approved the academic calendar shift to make amends according to the ASEAN harmonization in 2015. Long story short: UP is one of the universities to start classes on August and end in June. UST follows, starting their academic year on July. Ateneo is set to start classes on August next school year.
  • After a few quite pressurized days, I have been elected to be UP Sandigan’s Secretary General. Quite a dream come true really! It was one of my goals when I joined our org. And now I’m excited as the new school year unfolds!
  • Hell week. Can’t even stress it enough. But eventually, I managed to pass all my subjects with flying colors! Sort of.
  • We had our community drugstore internship in April, and our Cavite community immersion last May. I have learned so many things! Mainly on how to become patient when interacting with others, how to adapt to a community, and becoming more aware on the health status of some communities and barangays in our country.
  • I have been writing more than reading. And it feels good to express my thoughts on paper. A little inspiration goes a long long way, too!
  • Before my siblings went back to school, we went to El Nido, Palawan! The place was just breathtaking. The sand, sun, and sea never felt better! To make things more exciting, we’re going back to Palawan next year, this time to Coron!
  • So far now, I’ve been bumming around the house. It has been quite awhile, except for a couple of catching up with high school friends and movie dates with the college gang. Hoping for more. 🙂
On Being Single

On Being Single

I have this friend, Maru, and he recently wrote a blog post about love, or lack thereof, and he actually inspired me to do this little post reflecting his, and I thought it was a really good idea since February is just around the corner! And I’m not gonna lie: being single is absolutely fabulous, but there’s something about having someone that makes you resolutely happy.

So for all TSwizzle fans out there, this is for you! I am about to dedicate Swift songs to past love (or lovers). Ready? Set? GO!

1. Cold As You

You put up walls and paint them all a shade of gray
And I stood there lovin’ you and washed them all away
And you come away with a great little story
Of a mess of a dreamer with the nerve to adore you

And now that I’m sittin’ here thinkin’ it through
I’ve never been anywhere cold as you.

2. White Horse

I had so many dreams
About you and me
Happy endings
Now I know that I’m not a princess,
this ain’t a fairy tale,
I’m not the one you’ll sweep off her feet.

3. If This Was A Movie

I was playing back a thousand memories, baby
Thinkin’ ‘bout everythin’ we’ve been through
Maybe I’ve been goin’ back too much lately
When time stood still and I had you

Come back, come back, come back to me like
You would, you would if this was a movie
Stand in the rain outside
‘Til I came out

Come back, come back, come back to me like
You could, you could if you just said you’re sorry
I know that we could work it out somehow
But if this was a movie you’d be here by now

4. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together

So he calls me up and he’s like, “I still love you,”
And I’m like… “I just… I mean this is exhausting, you know, like,
We are never getting back together. Like, ever”

And for every single girl out there, we do not need a guy to be happy. Enjoy your being single and I tell you, there’s nothing better than having your hair tied up in a messy bun, no makeup, sweatpants, a chic flick (or a chic lit if you’re that kind of girl) and the two best men on your life: Ben & Jerry. This song is for you:

6. 22

It feels like a perfect night to dress up like hipsters
And make fun of our exes.
It feels like a perfect night for breakfast at midnight
To fall in love with strangers.

We’re happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time
It’s miserable and magical.
Oh, yeah
Tonight’s the night when we forget about the deadlines
It’s time

I don’t know about you
But I’m feeling 22
Everything will be alright
If you keep me next to you
You don’t know about me
But I’ll bet you want to
Everything will be alright
If we just keep dancing like we’re

The Happy List – 011714:

  1. Finding time to finish (or try to finish) all work due to next week and further.
  2. An efficient planner!! It’s only rare that you find the perfect one that suits you, your lifestyle, and your schedule. I have to thank BDJ for this, and for the Pantene Kit they sent over!!
  3. Teal-colored things. I’ve recently re-developed my love for teal especially my teal ink-colored pen from Muji!! (I shall someday buy the whole set of colors because Muji’s pens are just perfect.)
  4. My handy dandy notebook!! Because I have finally have a jotter pad of some sorts to write down to-do’s, minutes of meetings, and random notes to myself when the planner is out of reach.
  5. Phone calls. Because SMS is so a long time ago.
  6. Friends – who no matter where or when, you could always call them up in the most mundane of times and reasons.
  7. Writing. Because nothing ever makes me feel efficient…and creative. It’s my art.
  8. Seeing your article published!! Even if it’s just on your college publication. Someday, it will come a long way.
  9. Thinking about the future. And the road not taken.
  10. The Spectacular Now. Both the movie and the meaning behind it, because we have no better thing to do but to enjoy today, and make the most of tomorrow.

How To Be: A Writer

How To Be: A Writer

  • Write everyday. Even if it only means updating your Happy Jar, penciling something in your planner, or taking notes. When a random thought pops into your head, scribble it down, because you never know if the idea may never come again.
  • Keep a journal. If you can, then do it. You may not be able to write on it everyday, but make sure to keep one on your desk, on your back, or your bedside table for all of your random musings. I promise you, one day you will look back and whether that thought made you smile or it made the pain come back, you will be glad that you wrote about it.
  • Be inspired. The world is beautiful, and it only is when you look at it and appreciate everything that surrounds you. And then when you’re ready, you might be able to create a beautiful world of your own writing.
  • Read. Whether it be a light read, a chic lit, a heavy English novel, young adult, a mystery, your favorite book, an article, a tweet from a celebrity, signs along the hallway, it is important that you immerse yourself in words, and find how they mean to you and how you would want the world to understand your words.
  • Try something new. Veer away from your style, but still remain true to yourself. Learn a new word and use it in a sentence. Apply as a contributor in your school paper, or maybe even as an intern at your favorite magazine. The world is full of opportunities. Seek it.
  • Look back. Reread your old work. Backread your blog. Create a portfolio of your work. The world has inspired you, and it’s time for you to inspire others, too.

Disclaimer: These are not rules. These are merely written down here to remind myself of what I may or may not want to pursue. Nevertheless, feel free to try it on your own. 🙂

It’s that time of the year again when we all lookback to the year that was, and honestly, my words won’t give justice to anything that has happened this year because despite of all its downfalls, it has certainly been a fruitful year for me! 🙂

  • I have always dreaded the first half of the year because the semester is at its climax with all the exams and papers piling over each other and it has been undoubtedly so stressful during these months. It is a very great thing, however, that I was able to fix myself up during that semester (after my first ever failure) because I was able to exempt myself from almost every final that I had. 🙂 I can’t but be truly proud of myself with this accomplishment, and since then I have been pursuing the exact goal for every semester thereafter. 🙂
  • As always, there wasn’t really much to do during the summer so I took a summer class which wasn’t really bad. And TMQFC had this thing during the summer when we’re not allowed to repeat outifts lol. Haha. I miss that clingy bunch.
  • When June came, it was really exciting because it was a brand new year to start all over and application week was so much fun! I joined another organization (or publication, for that matter), and I have learned a lot from them this year and I’m very grateful to have spent 2013 with all these amazing people around me. :’)
  • From July onward, it was really a big blur of projects and events that really kept me going and as always it was very fulfilling to have been a part of all of them! I do blog about these events and I don’t think it’s very much helpful to type them out all over again. But as I have said, I have learned a lot from all of it! (Maybe I’ll make a separate post about all the things I learned this year, eh?)

Pictures speak a thousand words so I’ll let them do the talking instead!

Dragons. My love for this bunch: to the moon and back 10000x
